Hunt the Music!

Saturday 4th March

That was an interesting concert – the soprano soloist in Handel’s “Laudate Pueri” was struggling with a very bad throat during the rehearsal and was too ill to perform in the concert in the evening. So Donald Hunt, ever the unruffled, able musician, announced that we would perform the second half of the programme backwards, as the first half – i.e. Vivaldi “Gloria” to start followed by Vivaldi Recorder Concerto in C.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the choir had been despatched to the library at the Elgar School of Music to find “something else” for the second half!

We began with the planned Bach Motet “Singet dem Herrn”, followed by Handel’s “Arrival of the Queen of Sheba”. By this time the Chairman had arrived back and the music for two Coronation anthems had been placed on our stands. So we all set to and sight-read “Hail the King” and “Zadok the Priest”.

And it was magnificent!
