Sheila Joynes's Musical Diary

Traditionally, March has been the Silly Season for concerts. This year is no exception!

Saturday March 4th – Worcester, St Martin’s Church; double bass in Vivaldi Gloria etc with Donald Hunt and the Elgar Chorale

Saturday 11th, Sunday 12th, Saturday 18th rehearsals for

Sunday March 19th – Chandos Concert (playing cello, of course!) in Malvern.

Saturday March 25th – Bewdley, St Anne’s Church, repeat of March 4th Concert.

Thursday March 30th – Chipping Campden; performance of Rutter Requiem with the School choir, “Canzona”. I’m playing harp this time. I love this work and I am convinced that the main “raison d’etre” for my having had the opportunity to learn, and then own a harp, was so that I could play this piece. Whenever it comes to the last movement I am always overcome by a sense of sadness and wonder whether I’ll ever have the chance to play it again. When I play harp I always wish I was playing the beautiful cello solo. When I play cello, I miss putting in the rippling harpy bits.

There’s just no pleasing some people!
